Alrighty, so what are the things that will go wrong the first few

Maybe this weekend...

Hey Tim,
To prepare for loop practice, note the following:
1) wear a wetsuit
2) expect sore upper shoulders/side from the back smacks
3) expect a few head smacks/side of face... ear protection or helmet
here may be advisable
What not to do!!:
1) Don't look at the nose or the water out in front of you
2) Don't let go! Hold onto the booms at all costs, especially during
the first half of the rotation
3) Don't stay hooked in! I broke two booms last year trying FWDs
hooked in
The most likely thing that will go wrong the first time:
1) You will look forward. This seems to happen most often since the
natural tendency is to look where your mind thinks it is going. If
you look forward, likely the rotation will be too slow and you will
face plant into the water and may hit the mast... That hurts!
There are lots of tips and tricks out there, and I have read most of
them. Since looping is so fresh for me and I have been successful,
these tips are what I gathered from my recent experience. Probably
one of the best things I did to psyche myself up to go for it on
starboard, were those little pre-loop jumps I mentioned in a previous
post in this thread. Main thing is that you have to feel comfortable
with your rig, and conditions. Best to be well powered up on the sail
and have it near fully loaded at takeoff. There is a "feel" factor
that will come, similar to those doing planing jibes or waterstarts.
People spend hours breaking down the moves and "how" to do them
successfully, but once you do it a few times, it begins to work more
on "feel" as compared to "technique."
Well, all rec.dotters... I want to see someone else's report of a
successful loop attempt with some photos! Unfortunately, here on the
OBX, we are locked into no wind for the foreseeable future (next five
days!?), so loop practice here is on hold for a little while. Perhaps
for all you out there who are interested and cannot come here for loop
practice, we can kind of have a "virtual" loop online session here to
psyche everyone up who is itching to try it!
Here is a good site I checked out for more "technique:"
http://www.boardseekermag.com/technique/advanced/forward_loop/forward_loop.htm
Also see the right dropdown list on the web page for info on doing
other moves.
