AWD worked great after I had the transmission rebuilt immediately
after I bought it. They were known for weak stock transmissions, and
luckily the after market warranty I had on it covered most of the cost
of the rebuild. Following the rebuild, I had the van for about 7
years and put over 100,000 miles on it before it died again. However,
after the second time, the van went to the salvage yard. All in all,
it had close to 220,000 miles on the odometer before it being
crushed. Many of miles were DC runs back and forth to Hatteras, and
many excursions onto the sand all up and down the OBX.
Overall, the AWD was fantastic and the times I ran the van in the
snow, it did great!
Had several caravans over the years. Weak points are their Trannies
and air conditioners. The most impressive mini I've seen was the
original windstar from Ford. It had the rear wheel drive chasis of
the small pickup and goes for jillions of miles. Several friends
swear by theirs. Getting harder to find though.
Some like the VW Euro Vans. They can actually appreciate in value!.
What? An auto that appreciates? Ron Kern loves his.
