Re: OT, GPS unit... not for windsurfing

Just use your laptop and buy the Maps and Streets software and GPS
reciever from Bestbuy or wherever. It's a dream to use, takes only a
couple days to master it which is much less than a GPS. Map your route,
hit the space bar and the voice comes on. "In .25 miles turn right" If
you miss it "Off route, Off route"

Plan your coffee then P breaks even. Or hit those out of the way
legendary bars/restaurants with zero effort.

The only other accessory is the inverter, don't get the smallest one as
they are taxed by the laptop transformer. The Black and Decker one

(no cords) with a little fan and 100watts is the lower limit.
I can't imagine travelling with mapping GPS on a widescreen anymore.

The best is when you are tired, alone, in a big city and there is a
monster traffic jamb.
Just drive around it, with better knowledge than most locals!

I was wondering if there is any sort of GPS handheld that handles both
driving type applications as well as personal navigation?

What am I driving at? My wife has a business where she needs
directions to her destination in the car (mostly western States) and
then would find it pretty handy to have a track of where she went once
she got out of the car. Another necessary function is mapping her
track on a laptop and portable printer when she gets back to the house
or to a laptop and portable printer in the car.

Anyway I just thought that someone might have a lead on a GPS unit like
that so I could cut down my research time.

Thanks for any leads
Tom

I just picked up the Garmin etrex Legend CX handheld more so for marine
use. I'm a newbie to to this, still trying to figure it out but I
believe it would more what type of software and memory you would want
for the unite.

The etrex Legend CX come with a scan disk slot where you can purchase a
micro chip and just slide it in there instead of downloading from your
PC or CD. I purchased the Bluechart micro chip for Cape Cod.

Go to www.garmin.com check out the options. I bought the handheld
through Amazon.com and the chip through a tackle shop out in California
via ebay.
