The key for me is flat water. I love flat water.
Winds should be strong enough I can plane, but not so strong I have to
go borrowing a smaller sail.
I'm just as happy on a 9.8 as I am on a 5.5 if I can feel in tune with
the equipment, the wind and the water.

After moaning to my wife and buddy this weekend about the dismal session I
had, they asked me what I considered to be "perfect" conditions. While
these probably never exist, it occurred to me that my preferred
wind/water/gear combination has changed lots in the past few years.
Raging winds are fun, but not always. Mild conditions sometimes make me
feel like a hero, but can get boring too. So my "sweet spot" is somehwere
in between.
So for me, "perfect" would be a sunny 4.2ish day in the Gorge. Very
consistent wind would create nice even swells that would naturally span the
entire river. The water would be warmish, call it 65F, and the day would be
clear and mostly sunny, say 75F. There would be a few sailors out, no big
crowd, just some folks to watch and learn from, with an occassional jibe
marker ;-)
How's about you?
