I gotta say, surface area is helpful going up wind, and very helpful getting
on a plane,
but a high aspect fin just stalls later than a stubby fin. So I guess I 'm
mostly in agreement

Nothing wrong with using a board that is overly popular, but does
everything any board can do and it's a sure thing.
Rode the 93 FSW today, winds 8-22mph, 5 meterWaveComp, stock 27 fin,
going fast, easy out past the Lordships, glide thru 12mph holey lulls
when people can't waterstart, them's wider boards just make it easier
to have full range.
I think fin area is more important than fin length, as that stock fin
goes upwind like it's on rails and close to angle and speed with the
Formula guys in the gusts.
