Hi Bob,
I think you've seen the hand held I use- its a Vortex inspeed which is
cheaper than most and I've found it to be accurate or at least consistant
with the Kestral (reads 1 mph less but it always has). take a look at it

Its' heart is a bicycle speedometer but the whirl-a-gig thing is well made
with a good bearing. It was the 'Official wind meter' for the '03 and '04
US Open (and would have been again this year if I had been there).
