I currently own the 87L Switch and am having similiar problems with
getting it to cut loose anywhere but
off the wind and well powered.
First off, the reason I bought this board was to fit between my 76L
RRD Wave One and a 98L JP freeride.
I wanted a board that could handle medium Gorge winds as well as the
gusty-holey days where the wind blows
15 to 30 mph. It needs to work for my wife as well. . I,m 180lbs, she
135, and neither one of us
have Quite figured it out. Both the RRD and JP are keepers in our
quiver,Boards we both liked from the day one.
The Switches best quality is high wind, rough water control.
The worst are its speed at anything less than way powered and off the
wind.
It seems that this season a lot of water was being held in the dams
for the Salmon smolt flushes, resulting in a lack of current.
Under these conditions both of us were stuck doing a slow BAF to get
upwind half the time.
The fins I used were both g-10 swept tip pointers, 10.5 and 12 in.
long. The Mast track was tried everywhere.
Wondering why, I put a 5' straight-edge under the tail of the board
and found a rocker that is nearly identical to my 8.5 Mistral-Naish
waveboard ,as well as a lot of vee running nearly full-length with
fairly soft rails but thick rails. I,m sorry but this is no slalom
board, I don,t care what marketing said.
Its no wave board either. Convertible -yes. An exciting design-no.
My 96' Seatrend 8.9" ATV that no-one would buy dirt cheap at the swaps
last year will tounce this board in every way.
