There is absolutely no reason to get a "higher end" firewire port. A 1394
port is nothing more than a data port, just like a serial, parallel or USB
port. All it does is pass data to the computer. As long as it is
OHCI-compliant, as $10 card will work exactly as well as a $150 card.
