"DALLAS - In a case beginning this week, a Texas jury will be asked to
decide whether satellite-TV giant EchoStar Communications Corp. stole
TiVo Inc.'s technology that lets viewers skip the commercials."
"TiVo claims that EchoStar, which operates the Dish satellite network,
violated TiVo patent on technology used to record one program while
playing back another. TiVo is seeking unspecified damages."
So which one is it? Does AP regularly butcher stories this badly?
How about both,
[...snip]
Then *why* is the "technology that lets viewers skip the commercials"
aspect not even mentioned after the opening sentence?
[Please don't reply with info about possible damages or what law firm
is being used. It's quite irrelevant to what I'm asking.]
The "reporter" responsible for the AP news item didn't understand
the legal issues. AP stories often have incorrect detail.
This one was particularly erroneous.
