Irwell's response above is right on the mark. During the time around
equinox and sun outage- March and early October- the trace of the sun
in the sky is the same as the satellite belt. Thats why we have sun
outages. The sun is lineing up behind the satellites. If the sun shines
on your chosen satellite install location from an hour after sunrise to
an hour before sunset you'll have clear line of sight to all c band
satellites visible at your location. If you're only thinking about the
main Dish and Direct satellites you only need to see the sun from say 9
AM to 3 PM local time as they are more South from most US locations. For
clear line of sight with the Dish and Direct locals satellites at 61 and
148 the hour after sunrise and an hour before sunset standard is a safer
bet.
