I record weddings locally using 2 Sony DSR-250 DVCAM cameras. I was at
a wedding show the other day, and a few booths had the Canon XL1/XL2
cameras. I know these are SD cameras, however was wondering how they
compared to the DSR-250.

I have been having issues with my footage on LCD monitors. I
understand it is still SD, but the monitors both CRT and some LCD pc
monitors and tvs I test in my office look good,

Then how can you suspect the camera(s)?  Doesn't add up.
When you say "look good" are you refering to the original
camera footage, or the edited distribution medium (presumably
MPEG compressed DVD?)

but when I hand them
out to customers, they hardly look as good as a webcast.

If the DVDs (or whatever?) look OK before you hand them over,
what do you think you can do to make them look better on the
customers' screens?

I understand
the settings on tvs can cause the pictures to look good or bad,
however i have lost confidence in my footage in SD,

Perhaps you left out some key detail, but your "presenting symptoms"
don't seem to have anything to do with your cameras.

and really do not
know if I could afford HDV at this time.

Is there big enough a difference between the DSR-250 and Canon series
to warrent a change, or should i just keep the sonys and wait until
hdv?

Not clear that there is anything wrong with your current cameras at all.

Very true. What i should be asking for is a review between the DSR-250
and the Canon XL1/XL2. Is the picture quality much difference between
the cameras or only marginal?

Since the wedding show, i have be questioning all aspects of my
equipment.
