Also, what steps did you take to encode the video for this site? What format, etc etc.

Ah, I wrote an extensive reply (which I fortunately preserved, as I do
most of my posts...;-), but I must have forgotten to post it. Sorry, and
here is most of it, updated a bit --
ExposureRoom is a most amazing site, although it is sometimes not
clear what one does where on the site to do various things. The site
was down for about a day (I was in the middle of showing videos to
someone on the 'phone long distance...;-) It is free. I've been reluctant
to upload some of my old SD work since the general level of work on
this site is so high (and much of it from professionals, unlike YouTube),
but I just uploaded four of these...

In Sony Vegas Pro 8 with HDV, I set "Preferences" to 1280x720p
and then exported an m2t file setting "interpolated" deinterlacing in the
video preferences (that looked the best of the alternatives available).
I trimmed off my leaders (down to where I wanted them in the final
version), adjusted overall audio levels, sharpened "0.001" in Vegas
to partially offset the softening that resulted from the deinterlacing,
chose custom video quality = 31, and exported again with "none" for
interlacing. I then exported the file as an MP4 (audio 128 - 48, and
video quality "best", 1280x720, pixel aspect ratio 1:1, field order
"none", VBR 2-pass, ave.=4,000,000, max.=10,000,000, and "use
deblocking filter" for the settings. BUT, review ALL of the excellent
(although sometimes mysterious...) written and video tutorials on
the site and take notes - while you may not always know what they
are saying (I had problems converting data rate units, entering some
sign-up info, and knowing when I had actually succeeded in signing
in the first time), they will quickly answer email inquiries, if not too
many. Since you use Premiere, the values will be different and you
will need to be more careful with the number of "layers" of
recompression used (minimize the conversion steps by combining
steps into the fewest number of passes possible in order to reduce
image degradation with Premiere and HD, since it recompresses
everything on the timeline again with each pass).
I just put up 4-5 SD (Mini-DV) videos (see post above), and I
changed only the file types (from DV-AVI [i] and DVD-mpg [i] to
DV-AVI [p] for sharpening (this time different for each video), and
exported them as 640x480p MP4s. As a side note, with almost every
MP4 export from VP-8c, the program crashed (but the exported file
was OK - a pain, but I can live with that one...). I posted all my ER
URLs in the post above, and they are also all on my web site at --
www.donferrario.com/ruether/HD-video-captures.htm).
