If you have a reasonable laptop, you can play the very same file which is output to tape (a .m2t file) directly from your hard disk. This merely requires a software player, of which there are several (including VLC freeware), a relatively recent laptop with video output supported at 1920 by 1080, a monitor or HDTV, and a cable. If you want to use a DVD rather than play from the hard disk, you could directly write the.m2t file to a DVD, allowing about 45 minutes of recording time for HDV 25 MBit/sec content on a dual layer blank, or 23 minutes to a single layer. If you wanted full menus and DVD navigation, it gets slightly trickier, but it also can be done, but we can get into that if you would like. The DVD with or without menus can be played on the laptop or specifically authored for use with the right type of HD player.
Thanks. I will be possibly invited to shoot a nice wedding ceremony at Cypress Gardens on the 31st of this month, then the bridal show is Sep 26. I know I can show my result with the camera, but it would be so much better to be able to do it on laptop. Would the software to play m2t files be WM-9? I believe I can output that with the VGA connector, because I have shown 1920 x 1080 still photos on my projector with that cable. So that would be neat - just slap the m2t file onto my laptop and play it thru the VGA cable to my 26" monitor. But that leaves the sound question...

I would suggest you try VLC as your player but you certainly could try WM-9. Sound is really simple.....get a small pair of amplified stereo speakers and plug them into your laptop headphone / line out jack.
