I have just updated my reviews of HDV video editing
programs (Ulead VideoStudio 11+, Adobe Premiere
Elements 4, and Sony Vegas Pro 8 - the last with
comments on the beta .dll file and with information on
how to get it and install it). I also recently updated my
Canon HV20/HV30 review. These are at --

Hello David -

I just finished building my Matrox RT-X2 Premiere Pro CS3 system and
programming it. It works like butter, perfectly editing HDV in real time and
outputting onto a High Def monitor. I can monitor the captures, the editing,
and the output of the timeline on my 26" LCD monitor in HD. Captures split
the shots into individual clips. Matrox 3D effects are key-framable and you
manipulate the positioning and scaling by grabbing handles right within the
program monitor itself. I have dual screen monitors to spread the Premiere
Pro across two screens. Haven't gotten to transferring the output to tape or
Encore yet, but the system is Blu-Ray capable and can output to anything
from HD to Flash. My video from the HV20 is amazing and doesn't lose quality
on editing. Much like DV.

I have been following your Matrox comments with interest Gary and have a couple questions, if you don't mind.

First, I wonder how rendering is handled. When 3D effects, titles, etc. are previewed, the Matrox hardware obviously allows real time. How does the eventual rendering process get handled when the time comes to output the entire 'movie' to its ultimate HD output. I would imagine that BluRay mpeg2 HDV would be fast, but I would like your confirmation, but am also especially interested in alternate AVCD/h.264 output, and wonder if this option is supported, and if so, at hardware accelerated rendering speed.

Second, and related to the first, is the situation for AVCHD content. I am wondering if there are any provisions to handle AVCHD anywhere in the workflow, ingest, edit, preview, output.......perhaps something as simple as adding some AVCHD content to the Premiere time line with or without Matrox support?

One last topic just came to mind also, and that is whether you have found anything about the Matrox which you do not like. They have been doing video for a really long time, and this RT-X2 comes from a lot of very good prior engineering, so I would be surprised if it had any real "gotchas", but you are in a good position to offer any comments here.

Thanks in advance Gary for your feedback / comments.
