Richard Crowley's advice really offered the best solution, since most microphones have mono plugs which, if connected to a stereo
female jack, would "short out" the opposing channels' signal. The correct adapter which is the most universal offers one jack
which has the "ring" activated, the other with the "tip" activated, and neither using the other connection. This avoids the
shorting issue entirely.

Making up a connector like this for the do-it-yourself type is a simple job if you have the plug, jacks, a little wire, and a
soldering pencil or gun. For the less intrepid, ordering it from a reliable source as Richard suggested is a great solution. I
believe they actually stock the specific item the OP is looking for.

I have several of these made by RS. They look similar to the
ones you gave the links to much earlier in this thread, but they
do exactly what you recommend (one mono input jack is "hot"
on the ring of the male output plug, the other on the tip). They
are compact and cheap at about $5, and I found them useful
for using pairs of dual matched short shotgun mics on a
compact bracket, pointed slightly away from each other - or
for putting a short shotgun on one channel and a wireless
receiver on the other, as the OP wants to do.

This does just what the OP wanted, and for just $5.00. The mono
inputs are plated silver and gold - put one mono item in one of them
and check which channel of the camcorder it appears on. BTW, he
can also find right angle 1/8th" stereo connectors and short 1/8th"
cords at RS so he can mount his gear near the camera on a bracket
(I like still camera flash handles for doing this).
