Stills from Video

Hi People, I transferred some documentaries of mine from digital video
to AVI. On my computer I ran that AVI with Sony's Vegas and Windows
Movie Maker. With both I took stills of identical frames.
A Vegas still was 106KB - the same Movie Maker still 27.1KB.
Strangely, the Vegas stills were rather blurry compared to a markedly
better clarity and sharpness of the much smaller Movie Maker files.
How come? I would have expected the opposite.
Thanks for answers - Klaus and Rusty
