Re: AVID vs Final Cut Pro

as i say, i will get the source from my son. great report. was done by
some group in hollywood and new york (not completely sure about the last
part of this comment but that's what i recall . . just the 86% stuck in my
head big time . . especially since we were right in the middle of trying to
figure out where to go with our problem. i even thought about going back to
linear and having to eat my words to go to NLE and buy back the pro machines
we sold to edit linear taping. :o( but with avid and pc's we didn't have
to. after all, it was a cheap experiment because as i've said before, we
bought our computer at best buy and nothing really overly special other than
dual core . . not two processor chips but comprised in one . . o and btw, a
gateway, the later of which is solid built as a rock, so said a local three
state biggie tech company when we asked them to check it out for us. :o)
in fact, his words were, "this is maybe the best consumer or pro-sumer pc
i've ever seen, i'd even classify it as a pro model." the model for anyone
whose so interested is a 840GM.

do a google. that's how we found it. i think the search was something
like
this, "avid software usage" or "avid reliability" or "avid industry
users"
my son did the search (he was dead set against avid - - wanted to switch
to
Premier Pro when we were dumping the deadbeat g5's) i'm with him all
day
tomorrow at a shoot and i'll try to remember where he found it. then
when
we went to NAB post in NYC and met Thelma Schaunmaker (sp) who edited
"The
Aviator" for Marty (as she put it), she confirmed what my son had found
indicating that everyone she knew used avid.

That was the case for many years but is no longer the case. Last time
I checked the Mac had around 50% market share as a PLATFORM (which
could include Final Cut, Avid and Media 100 primarily) and PC's were
around 70% since many facilities use both. That was mid-to-late 2005.

Oh.. this is so unprovable.. Come on. man. No one ever really does
surveys on this stuff.. it is all exaggeration and guessing. You vaselate
between logic and hype.

doc said he did a survey.. but has yet to come up with where he go the
numbers..
