I stand corrected then. Just relaying a memory of studying a P150 circuit
diagram when we first got our first PD150.
But there have been a lot of circuit diagrams since then and before then so
hands up to being wrong.

This is getting silly. Why do those who clearly have little or no
expertise in these particular cameras insist on arguing with me even after
I've declared a long standing broadcast and professional usage of 'em???
No Pat, they are not unconditionally limited. They provide both manual and
automatic modes for every conceivable audio function, separately or
linked, as required, for each channel. In full manual mode one can exceed
0db and irretrievably distort the recording in error. This is not
speculation.

I thought all those cameras (certainly the PD150 and I think the 170) have
limiters even if you switch to manual mode.
I seem to remember seeing it on circuit diagram somewhere.
So even if AGC is off if you give it too much it will limit.
If this limit is set to be just before the digital clip point it's not an
issue.

Suppose one were to raise the gain of Just One Channel (e.g. the right
channel of a stereo input) - would that force the ALC (I'm unclear on
the
diff. from AGC) to be a constant?
If you're referring to the PD150, PD170, Z1, A1 and the like, they have
separate control options for each channel. They have all the audio set
up
and control tricks found on broadcast cameras. We've been using all of
the
above types and most broadcast types in every mode from the first
availability of each model, so I can be definitive, as opposed to
speculative.
