Didn't work . the recorder just gave an error code on the front panel. must
be looking for a specific HDD or file format on the HDD. Will try the format
with Knoppix and try again.
If all else fails I thing I will just buy a DVD drive cobble it in to the
recorder and copy off all the stuff that's on the HDD. ( only doing this cos
it's full of the kids stuff and my life will be hell if I don't manage to
recover it!! )

Hi .
Managed to do it. Easiest way was to download the ISO recorder. Now it's
just two click and it copies and extracts the ISO file onto the CD.
Got Knoppix running great, only problem that I have to sort out now is
when I try to look at the partitions on the HDD it asks for a password -
haven't got a clue on that so I'll have to have a dig around on the
Knoppix site to see if I can get any help there.
As a Side note. I seem the remember that you can format the HDD in the
recorder from within the menu's. I check and sure enough the option is
there to format the HDD > I am going to drop a 160 gig HDD in the recorder
today and format it and see what size it comes out at - I suspect that it
will either crash or format to 80 gig. Worth a try though.

Hilooks
I have checked the DVD drive and it is a Toshiba Samsung SD-W3002. It
like a standard drive to me.
I have had the HDD out of the recorder, it's a maxtor 80 gig, and
say'sit
up to my PC using a USB to IDE adaptor. The problem is that the PC
bootmass storage device detected and ready to use but I can't see the
drive
in
explorer. In device manager I can see the drive but in the
properties -
Volume tab there is no drive information - all blanks.
Putting the HDD back into the recorder and it works fine.

It's probably formatted with a file system used in Linux. You can get
a
Knopix Linux distribution in an ISO. Burn the ISO to CD. Then you can
ainto Knopix from the CD without putting anything on your PC. Knopix
has
drive.GUI interface so it's not to hard to use for things like browsing a
toolIt can be used to examine a Windows install that wont boot too. Good
and gives a peek at Linux.
Geeze, my 3.3 version is old. Been meaning to get a newer version.
Downloading it now. Slo-o-o-owly.
Hopefully you know the ISO is an image and has to be burnt so the data is
extracted. Not just putting the file on the disc. Can let you know what
the
disc should looks like as soon as I burn and test it. Seldom burn ISO so
will be doing a little relearning.
