I am not sure what Taiyo Yuden (TY) is, strange thing is I have made
about 100 DVD's copies with this machine with every thing from 4x to
16x.

Like I said I can playback a DVD so the DVD read part must be working,
but it can no longer 'see' blank DVD's and I have tried three different
brands, what I thought were quality brands,HP being the latest, at
least 25 differnt blanks, still says "No Disk'.

Well, TY's are the best as far as I"m concerned. I never make a coaster
burning on three different burners (Tosh, Lite,Sams)

What I would personally do if I had your problem is open up the case, unplug
the burner, boot the computer, shut down, reconnect the burner, boot up.
see if it solves the problem.

Weird problem.
