monitor, and enjoying the great pics of HD. FWIW, the model is
LEDTV2235 with 1920 x 1080 Resolution. I do have a desktop and will
try try that
the first chance I get to see if it is the monitor or cable. Thanks to
all.

So see if you laptop, under display properties has a 1360X768 setting. My
desktop PC has this settting on its ATI 3870 Video cards drivers.
If it does, try that setting and see if the monitor works!!!
You see , even though it can receive the 1080i and 1080p signals, it
downsamples them to 720P resolution.
it. Correct me if I am doing something wrong. I disconnected the vga
cable from my desktop and replaced it with the monitor's vga cable,
booted up my desktop and all i get at the pc input screen is a smaller
square shape with a lot of snow. no pc picture at all. As for the
resolution...what does 720P or any hd resolution have to do with a pc
input? My laptop does not show 1360X768, but my desktop does, and
still no pc connection.
Some PC inputs on LCD TVs, *don't* support native resolution. As
wacky as that sounds, that's how some of the older designs
worked. And I can't think of a single good reason for it.
What that would mean in practice, is a 1366x768 panel would support
1280x1024 max. But only the older LCD TVs do that.
More recent products (products with downloadable manuals
and full specification sheets), show that native resolution is
now supported.
Also, monitors now have better provisions for dealing with their
PC input. At one time, the LCDTV input would demand 1366x768 for
the 1366x768 panel. That value was next to impossible to set up,
so users were robbed of the best resolution value. In some cases,
there would be a "tear" in the image on the screen, caused
by aliasing.
Now, the LCD TV may support 1360x768, and place thin black bars
to make up the difference. And while still painful to set up,
at least that resolution value can be generated by a lot of
video cards. (Horizontal divisible by 8, vertical divisible by 2.)
I suggested in my first answer, that you use moninfo, to read
out the monitor EDID. Plug in the LCD TV and give it a try.
Even if the LCD TV won't display an image, the computer
should be able to read the EDID chip, over the monitor cable.
You may see the actual set of supported resolution settings
in the returned information. And then, you'll be able to
discuss with GMAN, whether the PC input supports HD resolutions
or not.

I'm sorry..you guys lost me not as computer literate as you both
seem to be and i do appreciate this dialogue...were having.. tell me
how can i view this monitor file if I cannot view on the monitor that
i am trying to hook up? So how can it tell me the resolution? AM I
reading your posts wrong? Right now I am trying to hook it up with my
Desktop that does have 1360X768 and my new monitor is capable of
1920X? Max. BTW, if it makes any difference you guys keep referring my
monitor as LCD, it is LED, it that makes a difference?
OK, say you have a computer with two displays. One monitor works,
the other does not.
--------- (working display)
/
Computer
\
--------- (the display that is black and not working)
So what you do, is leave the non-working display connected. Power
it up (as not all displays will draw power from the VGA cable, when
you want to read the EDID).
Now, run Moninfo on the Computer. Even though the second display is
blank, the computer can still read the EDID. The EDID information
will be visible on the working display, when Moninfo completes
its work.
The display cable, has two information paths on it. In
simplified terms, it's sorta like this. Even though the monitor
on the right of the diagram, isn't using the video signals,
it is still possible for a portion of the monitor circuitry
(the EDID chip) to be working. That is what you're about to
test - is whether there is any signal coming from the EDID.
That Moninfo program will tell you.
------- Video signals -------------> Monitor
<------------ EDID -----------------
See if the EDID table lists any resolution values
you can test with.
