Trying to make a VCD that will play in most stand-alone DVD players as
well as autoplaying in most PC's. I tried including an AUTORUN.INF
file on the disk with the following:
[autorun]
open=M.EXE /fullscreen MPEGAV\AVSEQ01.DAT
M.EXE is a renamed Media Player Classic file, and I've included it on
the disk. I put all the videos together into one file called
AVSEQ01.DAT, which is in the MPEGAV directory. This plays fine on
every PC I've tried, but it has failed on both DVD players I've
tried. One started playing and stopped right away, another complained
the file had no audio data.
I guess including either the AUTORUN.INF or M.EXE files confuses stand-
alone DVD players. Maybe this isn't even possible, but I thought I'd
check here to see if anyone has a suggestions.
Thanks.
Most DVD Players are looking for a VIDEO_TS and
AUDIO_TS folder in the root of the DVD. It is from
the VIDEO_TS folder that authored DVDs are played.
For "DVD" players setup to play "raw" MPEG files, and
/or "VCD" or "SVCD" files, there is usually a menu
generated based on the file structure on the DVD. The
autorun.inf and any .exe files would mean nothing to
a "standalone DVD player". (They don't run programs
they just play video and audio streams. Some of them
can recognize the streams in certain file types, in addition
to those in authored DVDs.)
If this is something you have a real interest in, you should
check out Multimedia Builder (MMB)

The disk plays fine as a VCD with no VIDEO_TS folder in both of my DVD
players. When I reburn, adding the other files, the disk doesn't
play.
Since posting, I've realized giving people disks is so 20th century.
I'm going to put everything on YouTube, but thanks anyway. If someone
has a solution, I'd be curious to see it.
