I've just graduated from Pinnacle Studio to Adobe Premiere. I have
two perhaps unrelated goals: Learn Premiere, and convert a large
number of 8mm tapes into DVDs. I don't intend to do anything
particularly fancy with the tapes, just preserving the raw video onto
DVD would be fine for now.
Not having touched premiere before, (this is going to be a learning
experience) is there a cookbook somewhere that can get me started?
Thanks in advance.
I've been using Premiere since version 4 or 5.x (many years
now) It seems reasonably straightforward and easy enough
to figure out with the online help and forums like this where
you can ask questions, etc. Especially if you have the time to
play around without a deadline looming over your head. :-)
Note that the current full Premiere Pro version does not do
DVDs directly, it requires the additional product, Adobe
Encore. However the low-cost consumer version (Premiere
Elements) has DVD authoring functionality built-in.
Note that your 8mm tapes have a much longer expected
archival life expectancy than any DVD you can make, so
go ahead and make DVDs for viewing and distribution
convienence, but by all means DON'T discard those original
8mm tapes!
