Hi,
I have had this problem, it worked in windows 98 and when I went to XP the
card stopped working.
I found that having the camera switched on and connected when I started the
PC made it work.
I kept trying for a while, even switching back to 98 and all was ok under
98.
In the end I purchased a new FireWire card and no more problems under XP.

Martin

I recently rebuilt my computer, and had to replace my old PCI firewire card
with a new Syba 4-port PCI-Express card. My Canon ZR-500 camcorder used to
work fine, but now XP won't detect the camcorder.
I checked the Device Manager and the 1394 card is shown and says it is
functioning normally. There are no exclamation points or question marks in
Device Manager. But nothing happens when I plug in my camcorder. It's not
shown under "My Computer" and my capture software doesn't see any devices
connected.
I've tried all of the available firewire ports, no difference. My ZR500
shows "DV-IN" when my cable is connected.
There are no drivers for my firewire card or the Canon camcorder. Both
manufacturers say the necessary drivers are in Windows XP.
So what do I need to do to get this working? Is there a better forum
online
somewhere to ask this?
Thanks,
Anthony
