And make sure the previous card was uninstalled in Device Manager, unless
your rebuild included a reformat. Other possibilities include a fried port
on the camera, a bad cable, or simply a bad card (even though DM says it is
working properly). It may not register in DM as a problem if the electronics
are OK but the physical connections for the ports are bad. You might want to
try your camera and cable on a different computer that is known to work,
which will rule them out as the source.
Just as an aside, there are sometimes weird things that can go on. I once
reformatted a computer and all of a sudden the previously functioning
network card would no longer work, (that was after the drivers were
installed) and like your card, it was listed as functioning normally in
Device Manager. When I reinstalled the *motherboard* drivers for PCI IRQ
steering, I popped back on to the Internet with a functioning network card.
There was NOTHING in DM to indicate any conflict. So I guess it would be
good to check that you do not need anything installed for the motherboard
itself.

Hi Anthony,
I'd start by reseating the new card in the socket and make sure it is
seated properly.
If that doesn't do it, lets try a fresh set of drivers.
This is done by going to device manager and selecting the device and
hitting the remove button or right clicking the device and left clicking
remove or uninstall.
Restart the machine and it should load the drivers fresh as the machine
starts up.

I recently rebuilt my computer, and had to replace my old PCI firewire
card
with a new Syba 4-port PCI-Express card. My Canon ZR-500 camcorder used
to
work fine, but now XP won't detect the camcorder.
I checked the Device Manager and the 1394 card is shown and says it is
functioning normally. There are no exclamation points or question marks
in
Device Manager. But nothing happens when I plug in my camcorder. It's not
shown under "My Computer" and my capture software doesn't see any devices
connected.
in Windows XP.
So what do I need to do to get this working? Is there a better forum
online
somewhere to ask this?
Thanks,
Anthony
