Re: Aviation related Videos created with Windows Movie Maker.

As a pilot, Cessna 172 owner, and long time videographer I enjoyed,
but found some to be too long.

Hey Jim,

Thanks for the feedback! I haven't found that happy medium on length
yet, as you are right, some are too long. I think my limits are
around 2 to 3 minutes on a typical You Tube video, so I am now trying
to keep them shorter. You probably will notice that on my later
videos :-)

2) You do realize you are violating copyright laws? Violation of
youTube content rules, etc. Yeah, thousands do it also. You PROBABLY
won't get into trouble doing just this, but don't ever make a
presentation to a public audience or especially offer anything for
sale with commercial, copyrighted music. Huge no-no. Certainly
commercial music is great, that's why it was successful. Certainly it
matches the mood, that's why it was successful and tugs at emotions.
But it isn't yours to use. If you purchased the music, make your
video and only you listen to it, then MAYBE it's OK, at least you have
an out in court if it should ever come to that (which it probably
won't).

Yes, after reading the fiasco about Prince and a baby dancing to his
music being posted to You Tube, I kinda found out that indeed, I am
"beyond" pushing the limits of fair use.

3) I see most videos are from right seat, so I presume you are flying
left seat. You should get name of videographer for possible future
credits. And either pay them and/or get permission slips. While you
are obviously director, editor, producer, it seems someone else
actually held the camera. Credit as camera person should be added,
when you get to the point of adding credits.

We sure do live in a crazy world, as I never would have thought of
this since it was my camera being used.

Please don't take this as too harsh. Obviously you have good comments
and your audience likes what you do. Just a suggestion on
transitions, and advice to keep you legal on copyright. I've also
been known to use unauthorized music, but now try to avoid it. Still,
it's definitely hard sometimes. Just be aware of the risks, and don't
ever try to sell, that's where the big problems are.

Yes, I knew selling was taboo, as I have been asked by many people to
make them movie videos for family events and stuff, and I declined. I
did it for free as long as they provided the CD though, and chalked it
up as experience.

I do appreciate this input, I wouldn't have posted if I didn't expect
to learn from others!

Allen
