I'd say you are pretty much correct in your assessment.

Understood, but at least he is offering some help in return.
By contrast the Chineese offer no help or even context.
One problem with dealers posting 'help' like this is that sometimes the
soltions they offers usually only coinicide with what is on their shelf.
But as long as that is kept in mind by the reader..
I was considering posting that I didn't usually find
Mr. Bettan's posts that bad, but then I looked at
the other replies he made to threads in this NG,
today.
For example:
"While the lower end video editing titles (Studio, Vegas Moviestudio,
Premeire Elements) can edit HD footage, I don't find the workflow
acceptable. You do really need the more powerful versions of the
software (Premeire Pro CS3, Vegas Pro 8, Avid Liquid or Xpress Pro) to
handle the HD efficiently. Especially if you do more then basic cuts /
dissolves / wipes editing."
While I am sure PT and Crowley, share that view of
things, there are certainly other less expensive programs
that work well with HD footage. And they can do much
more than "basic cuts /dissolves / wipes editing". And
notice that "the lower end" is of Avid, Sony, and Adobe,
no mention of other players like Ulead or Magix. But
then you can't make the commission them that you do
on the ones "You do really need" "(Premeire Pro CS3,
Vegas Pro 8, Avid Liquid or Xpress Pro)"
Another problem with Mr. Bettan's posts is that they
resemble the experienced commissioned floor salesman,
with all the Manufacturer's blurbs memorized. You
can get a more up to date and thorough understanding
by reading the blurbs yourself at the company web site,
where you might also find some of the small print.
So, I guess I also object to his commercial posting.
Luck;
Ken
You will notice that Gary has not been pretending that he
is just another user by the signature at the end of each post.
As Jim said "as long as that is kept in mind by the reader..."
The ones that you really have to watch out for are the people
that come in here and tell you to come see this wonderful
thing they just found on the web.
David
