I am a composer and the way I capture my musical ideas is by video
taping myself play guitar. What I need is an editing program that will
show a separate audio track along with the video AND I must be able to
edit the audio track and link it to the video. In other words, when
editing the audio, I want to be able to edit the sychronized video
simultaneously. All editing decisions are audio based which is also
linked to the video. This way, I can watch myself play a musical piece
and have the edited audio linked to the video.
My computer is a pc, Athlon AMD , MSI Kmainboard. It is almost 5 years
old. 2 Gigs processor, 1 Gig Ram, Xp home edition.
I now use Pinnacle Studio MediaSuite version 10.5, Titaniuim but it
DOES NOT link the audio with the video.
My camera uses a miniDV and it works well. It is a panasonic pv gs-300
with a 3ccd chip.
Is there a video editing program that does what I want which runs on a
PC? If so, what program does this? Or, Must I buy a Mac and use
FinalCutPro?
There are many applications for PC that do the same thing
that FinalCutPro does on a Mac. In fact you have a wide
variety of applications to chose from (unlike Mac users).
There are some where sophisticated audio editing apps are
directly linked to the associated video editing program.
(Like Adobe Audition & Premiere, etc.)
All the video editing applications I have used or seen allow
you to edit based on the audio track and the video "follows".
Perhaps there are some low-end video editing apps that don't
so that, but there is no lack of programs that DO what you
are asking for.
Vegas has an audio background and might be a good choice
especially if you can get that $99 deal Mike mentioned. Another
even less expensive choice, with an audio orientation would be
Magix's Movie Edit Pro series.

They even have a program called "Guitar Workshop" that
may have been created by doing something like what you
describe. Perhaps it could give you some ideas.
Luck;
