(copyrighted or public domain). You might have seen this had you
seconds to check instead of turning on your snide generator.

The provenance is often mentioned in the header or in the message body.
Remember that not everyone
has broadband access to binary newsgroups.
Then I guess not everyone should opine about the content until they've
verified it...

just annother source of material of questionable legality?
As I said, I'm sure there's plenty of copyrighted material, but that's
up to the individual to pick and choose. The newsgroup is just one more
ressource for amateurs and professionals alike. I should have included a
notice to that effect with my original post, but I neither condone
piracy, nor do I take responsibility for the acts of others.
