I made a movie of a series of asf files of a total of 30 minutes. The
program Indows Movie Maker worked fine while I was working on the
project (well, the program got stuck many times so that I had to get
to the task manager to stop it, but that is normal for this program in
my experience. After all, it is Microsoft). When I tried to save it
as a movie ("Best quality for playback on my computer", estimated
space 256 MB). It just kept adding to the estimated time to finish the
movie (up to millions of minutes) and I did not get anywhere. AND ALL
THIS AFTER SPENDING MAY HOURS EDITING. I have plenty of disk space
left (15 GB). It is Movie Maker 5.1, service pack 1. Windows XP.
How do I get my movie? Another program that can deal with MS project
files would be good. Also, suggestions any suggestions for a program
that works would be very welcome.
Since it is obvious you want to run with the "I hate Microsoft"
set, why not get an Apple? Or install Linux? There is the added
benefit that the Apple Mac was designed for Brain Dead, stoned
slackers and people who can't run software, that many thousands
run with few, if any problems. (Nice big buttons in a colorful
artistic environment.)
It should have been a clue that you had something wrong, with
your system [or its operator] when " the program got stuck many
times". You should have saved your project files and then found
and fixed whatever you have messed up with your computer.
Once you have everything working, like the rest of the millions of
PCs running Windows XP SP2 , then you should be able to
finish your project.
As it is, who knows what kind of a mess your obviously
malfunctioning system has created.
Luck;
Ken
Now, Ken, get back on your meds! Althouhg *some* sarcasm would have been
merited, however :-)
For one thing, I also reacted negatively to the OP's anti-MS prejudice,
and I'm running on a Mac!
OK, time to confess: I'm running Windows in a virtual machine on the Mac,
so I can continue to use MesNews and Xnews...as well as a handful of other
minor apps, such as Microsoft Office :-) (I definitely didn't want to
spend the $ for the Mac version of that recently paid-for Windows
application!)
Anyway, I'm just teasing you a bit - I hope you don't mind too much!

Well, MS Bashing has become, Techno chic; much like
the wanabes who forgot how to capitalize. They think that
programmers always type in lowercase, and think that they
do it just to be cool.
There is nothing wrong with not liking MS, but to be
attacking something just because it is the "in thing" to do,
I find annoying. There is no indication that the OP has any
idea where the "doze" crack, as applied to Windows,
comes from. For him to imply that programs crashing, is
to be expected if running Windows, flies in the face of the
vast majority of PC users daily experience. In fact often
the rare problem is all the more noticeable because we
have become accustomed to things "just working".
But, the real point is he has several options and instead
of posting a rant ( that really just shows that he can't even
run Windows properly) , he can move to a different OS.
I would suggest though, that if he can't get his programs
running properly in Windows XP, he may have some
real problems trying to do as much as can be done with
XP; in any of the other options.
If he is looking for advice on how to accomplish a task
with his known to be malfunctioning hardware or software,
I'll leave that for others.
Luck;
Ken
