Is it possible to configure Womble so that whenever it is
invoked, opens with the PAL DVD template as normal? I have an
elderly client who whilst quite good at the editing process
nearly always forgets to set DVD PAL as the desired output
format with the result the project gets exported as MPEG1
NTSC etc... I have contacted Womble but no replies so far..
Yes. That's my configuration requirement too, and I now never
have to set it specifically. It wasn't *always* like that, so of
course this begs the question of how I arrived at this happy
state ;-) But I hope that if you use similar settings to mine
then you should be able to hit the Export button, enter a
filename (or accept the default) and click Save.
In the 'Save As Type' drop-down box I have 'Automatic'.
In the information box at the bottom of the 'Save As' window, I
see: ---------
Format : MPEG-2 Program
[Video] : MPEG-2, 720x576, 25.00 FPS, 8000 Kbps (VBR)
[Audio] : MPEG Layer2, 2 Channels, 48.0 KHz, 224 Kbps
---------
FWIW, I do recall I found it very unintuitive setting this up!
For example, if I now click the Template button, I would expect
to see those same settings in the 'Recorder Template Manager'.
But no, I see the selected Template Name is 'VCD NTSC', File
Format is 'MPEG-1 System', etc. Not at all reassuring!
So bottom line is that I think WVW must be retaining the last
*settings* I made. Which I believe was by manually changing
either the Template choice and/or using the Expert tab. You'll
appreciate I'm reluctant to experiment with it right now!
Incidentally, if you or your client have mastered the TITLE
EDITOR, perhaps you could give me some tips, as I find that
particularly hard work.

I received this reply from Womble
" Hello, Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, the editor does
not have this function. When exporting, you can select PAL DVD
template. In the timeline, you should set the Frame rate and
Preview Video Size via the Timeline ruler menu.
With a right mouse click on the timeline ruler area,
you can use the timeline ruler menu. Set:
Frame rate = 25.00 (PAL).
Preview Video Size = DVD.
Hope this help. "
Pity you can't set up default settings - in the case of my
forgetful friend the video content is all from family photo's
saved as bmp files so there is no internal info to say it's 25fps
or PAL as there is in a mpeg file. Loading a mpeg file does set
up defaults based on the SED in the file but naturally not for
stills. One workaround I've come up with is to get him to load in
a short 4:3 PAL 25fps MPEG file of 'opening titles' of his
production first before loading in the stills, this seems to
trigger Womble into this mode
This probably won't work; but there are sometimes
undocumented "command line switches" for windows
programs. You could try launching your Womble
program (whichever one it is) in a shortcut and put
-? or /? or -Help - on the command line. You may
then get an error showing any valid switches.
But as I said, it probably won't work.
Luck;

Right idea, wrong method (sorry, Ken, after praising you just a
couple of minutes ago!)
IIRC, when you do the above, you'll get a Command Window which will
display the results and, unfortunately, shut down immediately.
Here's my suggestion: open a command window in the program file
directory (if you have the TweakUI command that does that), or just
open a command window and navigate to that folder by CD commands.
Then run your suggested command, and the results will remain
visible.
BTW, another couple of possible command-line switches are -h and
/help, plus upper-case variants. I wish "they" were more
consistent...
WVW responds unhelpfully to all options. Specifically:
/? Opens WVW, no other info.
-? Opens WVW. Message: Cannot open the file "-?"
-h Opens WVW. Message: Cannot open the file "-h"
/help Opens WVW, no other info.
/h Opens WVW, no other info.
-help Opens WVW. Message: Cannot open the file "-help"

I guess I should have mentioned that - I tried all the trad switches but to
no avail, that's why I finally posted Womble direct. It seems the
programming is hardwired to NTSC etc as default which is reasonable I
suppose seeing that less than 10% of the World's population use it - yep I'm
bitter and twisted, I just wish the yanks would take a world view in their
marketing and design - years ago back in Amiga days there was a great little
audio editing program that opened in a NTSC size screen, I wrote them an
actual letter (quill and ink on parchment!) and got back the reply 'there is
not much need for PAL so we won't be doing an update!' I realised all that
had to be done was change a jpg file in the program collection of files to
PAL dimensions and using a hex editor change a line from ,ntsc to ,pal and
the job was done. I posted a floppy of my work to them and was told they
couldn't use it neither should I as it was a breach of copyright. Such was
the mind set in 1985 and it's still going strong!!! Needless to say I
continued to use it and was very happy with my modded program - it was so
easy to program and do mods with the Amiga that you could actually run the
program from a floppy without having to "install" it... ah progress....
