These are files of TV episodes from iTunes and have always played just fine. All other standard QuickTime formats still play fine. We updated both iTunes and QuickTime, no effect.
This is a high-end Dell desktop, Dell monitor, NVidia GEForce 5200 card, WinXP SP2, tons of RAM & disk space, no other problems, no recent installs. The only thing changed just before this happened is: a new Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), which was installed without the accompanying software.
Thanks for any clues. There's a pair of nephews here traumatized over this, so I'd almost build a statue for anyone who can solve it. Pls specify stone or bronze.

Your trying to play these in the Quicktime player right?
You could try the Videolan player, www.videolan.org. Its something of a swiss army knife for playing video of various formats.
