I found this on the web setting out the process. I'd imagine any
current laptop would be more than sufficient to handle the task.

Thanks for the link. I expect that to be exceedingly helpful when the time
comes, in addition to the specific instructions I have for the various Moto

DCT DVRs. But...

Do I understand you correctly that for purely encoding the signal, modest
laptops will do the job just fine? I load my desktops until they groan, but
I intend to use the laptop for simple mobile functions, and not use it for
primary uses, such as MS Office, Media Center, etc. I was under the
impression that nonpixilated encoding might take recourses that exceeded
bargain laptops.

For simply capturing/transferring the stuff from the DVR to your Laptop, your only real concern is storage space. The processor is not going to have to bust a gut. From the lengthy help file, it suggests its more complicated than capture from a camcorder, but I would be astounded if any laptop made in the last several years did not handle the process without difficulty.
