Easiest and best way, imho

[Snip comprehensive details]

Many thanks for all of that.

I am completely new to all this. I was hoping that the answer was going to be "get a pair of cables and a simple recording program.." but I see there is much more to it than that.

The DVD recorder sounds like the simples solution and probably the cheapest.

Should all DVD recorders be able to take care of the sync problem?

I also presume that the same method could be used to record direct from the camera to the DVD?

My gut feel is that as these are amateur recordings, the ability to make adjustments may well be valuable, so a capture card may be better in the long run.

The adjustments you mentioned are done on the fly while recording or as an editing process afterwards?

Again I presume that the card could be used to record direct from the camera to the DVD?

Just to clarify things with the capture card, would you be kind enough to spell out the steps involved from the point of connection the equipment to the card to getting a finished file on the PC. (The burning to DVD is not an issue - yet)

Thanks again.
