I've been a happy user of a Panasonic MX300 which is a 3CCD mini dv model. However, the firewire interface is broken and I have been advised that this will require the replacement of the primary pcb in the camera which I'm guessing will cost a lot of money. For the repair cost I could probably purchase a similar quality minidv non-hd camcorder
I'm therefore looking at the option of replacing it with a HD camcoder. Most of my recordings are of a non-commercial nature and I wonder to ensure that in 10 years time the picture quality will still be reasonable.
I have been doing some research but at the moment I'm looking for personal current recommendations on HD camcorders which are availble in the UK. One rainy saturday morning I did go into a high street electrical store (I was bored!) and asked about HD camcorders and couldn;t really make them understand why the quality of the lense was inportant.
If you own an HD consumer/pro-sumer HD camcorder what are you experiences of your purchase - good or bad?
Is it safe to say that at the moment most consumer and pro-sumer camcorders are 1080i rather than 1080p?
TIA
Dave
Not what you asked: have you checked with Panasonic for the cost of a repair?
The reason I ask is that Sony has a policy of a fixed repair cost for any repair (different for each model, but the same within one model). It might be that the cost of repair for your camcoder is within your preferred limits.
Yes, I read your correction (otherwise I'd never have noticed the spelling slip); anyway, I'm just having fun & hoping you'll join in :-)
