ahhhhh Sony, Sony, Sony
Few things to try:
- go to SystemDrive/Library/Receipts
- Look for all files that look like... Quicktime###.pkg where the ###
is 602 or 701 or703 etc.
- Throw them all away.
- Then go and get the full install back from the apple.com/quicktime
site and reinstall QT.
That will fix it.
Also try using your camera with iMovie.
If it works, you most likely have a Quicktime issue - it has been
reported by some users that it can take two or more reinstalls before
it works.
If it does not work with iMovie, you may have a cable or port issue.
Find another cable, camera and computer and do simple testing to
discover which part of the chain has gone bad.
More:
1. Are you using a USB cable? I know this sounds silly, but a lot of
people
try to do video transfer over USB, and this is generally not possible
with
FCP. (possible but good luck)
2. Getting your videocamera to communicate with FCP
If you've checked to make sure your videocamera is securely connected
to
your computer's FireWire ports (not USB), and your camera is turned on
and
set to VTR mode (some cameras call this Play or VCR) here are a few
more
things you can try:
- Check the date and time on your camera. Odd as this may seem, it is
one of
the most frequent reasons for cameras not being able to communicate
with
FCP. If you've never set the date and time for your camera, follow the
instructions in your owner's manual to set it. Then turn your camera's
power
off and then on again (this is called "cycling the power"). Connect
your
camera to your computer and try importing into FCP again. If the
problem
persists, follow the steps below.
To fully reset your camera:
1. Disconnect all the cables from the camera, including any power
cables.
2. Remove the main battery pack.
3. Remove the backup battery, which is usually a coin-sized battery
below or
behind the main battery.
4. Wait 1 minute.
5. Replace the backup battery, then the main battery, then any power
cables.
6. Turn on the camera and set it to "camera mode." The camera's display
should tell you that the date and time need to be set. If not, check
the
camera's date and time to see if they are wrong. If they are right,
repeat
steps 1-5 but wait several minutes before replacing the batteries.
7. Set the correct date and time.
8. Set the camera to VTR (playback) mode.
9. Reconnect the FireWire cable between your computer and your camera.
3. Sony camcorder special fixs:
Turn your camcorder to Play mode.
Press menu button (or relevant touch-screen button)
Click the 'ETC' item and then to CONTROL.
Select i-link (and not IR).
or
Turn your camcorder to Play mode.
Press the Menu button (or relevant touch-screen button)
Scroll down the Menu to the 'ETC' option, if there is one
Click the 'ETC' item and choose 'VIDEO EDIT' if it's there
Click 'VIDEO EDIT' and 'MARK 1 IN' may appear
Click on 'MARK 1 IN' and then exit from the Menu options, by pressing
the
Menu button again
Your Sony cam should now work OK.
Reason? The camera and Mac can't decide which device is giving the
FireWire
instructions, and which is supposed to be receiving and acting on them.
Using this sequence (above) lets the camera receive instructions from
FCP..

Hi,
So I recently bought the new Sony HDR HC3 camcorder - one of the new
consumer HDs. I shot a short film and am now in the editing stages. I'm
on Final Cut Pro 4.5HD. The problem is that anything shot with the new
camera (my old one was a simple miniDV) isn't recognized by FCP.
I can't figure out what setting is off. when I try and configure the
program settings and then try to capture, I get a message like ''system
configuration may have changed or your deck-camera may be disconnected
or turned off''.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated...
Thanks,
Dominique
