"Passthrough functionality"

Have lurked on this newsgroup on and off for a couple of months. I am
looking to convert some of my old VHS tapes into Digital format as well
as obtaining a reasonable video camera for home use. I was told
previously that passthrough was a way to go if you did not want to
bother with external boxes or firewire cards.

However, am I correct in assuming that where a Camera has "Signal
Convert Function" that this means passthrough??
