how do you get a good, small AVI from Premiere?

How can I get Premiere 7 to export a good quality, full size, full
frame rate AVI file for playback in Windows media player or other
software via a video projector?
A friend of mine used Pinnacle studio to create a 52 second, 720x480
AVI file from some footage that I shot on a Canon GL2. The quality
looked very when playing back with window media on a video projector
and the file size was only 200 Meg!
I wanted to adjust the audio of his edited avi and after I imported and
re-exported in premiere, it was 1.5 gig.
Pinnacle appears to use the "DV Encoder" codec. the only options I
have are the default Premiere options, of Huffy, Cinepak, Micrsoft
Mpeg4 v1-v3.
I can export to DVD mpeg2 using the adode media encoder, but it is a
pain to have to put everything on DVD when you want to playback a small
file and AVI works well with the software I used. I really just want
a good AVI, which must be possible since Pinnacle is doing it. Any
suggestions?
