Personally I would bet that your video was encoded by
NeroVision, using its own proprietary codec. The AC3
plugin works for me, but I haven't tested it against Nero
defiled video.

For a DirectShow filter the;
http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/ AC3Filter is great and coexists
on my system well.

Have you tried any video with AC3 audio that hasn't been in
contact with Nero? You could make one with Xpress 3.0,
this could also be a good test of whither the plugin is installed
and working correctly.

When you start Xpress 3.0 and click on the "Options" then
"About" is there a black line of text saying: "About TMPGEnc
Sound Plug-in AC-3" ? Or is there some red text about the
AC-3 plug-in ?

The sourceforge ac3filter will let you hear any valid AC3/A52
audio, in any player that uses DirectShow filters. The Xpress 3.0
plug-in is not a Directshow filter but a form of VFWAPI. If it is
installed and authenticated it will decode any valid AC3, as well.
(But only in TDA and Xpress 3.0, AFAIK)

You might want to try the free VideoLan Client (VLC) as it has
many codec built-in, besides it is a very good player and streaming
program.
