Both models have 1394 ports.

it can do it. If it doesn't, the only way to do it is by analog capture

digitization. Cameras with USB ports only support low-quality streaming,
e.g., as a webcam.

Yes, though virtually all digital camcorders, i.e. miniDV or Digital8,
can
do this. It is possible that the very cheapest cannot.

See above. What camera do you have?

You don't need special capture software if:

1. You're using Microsoft XP, and
2. You have a 1394/Firewire port on your computer.
