Richard's take on the situation may be valid, or it could be your monitor is
actually the problem. My bet is the monitor. If you can try another one.
Once you try a monitor that you are absolutely sure is working properly the
answer will be more evident, and much easier than changing out VGA cards.
Try the wiggle angle to see what happens, as Richard suggested. Sometimes a
loose cold solder can cause these sorts of problems.
And as for the question of whether or not this is the proper group to ask
and get answers to your questions. As a general rule the layman sees a video
device and looks to a video related newsgroup. Though some may think a
television related newsgroup would be the more appropriate place to have
asked this question, why would that occur to this person.
Nearly everyone calls a VGA card the "video card", and then again they refer
to a video capture card as a 'video card. It seems only natural to me that
anyone without specific technical expertise would naturally look to a "video
related" newsgroup with a question like this.
Why not just give the best answer and keep the advice to look elsewhere out
of the mix? Is it really that important to keep rec.video.desktop down to
only certain types of question as though it were some elite group? If there
can be a thread concerning something as non-video editing related as
daylight savings time, why not one for a two color monitor problem??

Last night, all was normal. Upon booting this a.m. the display showed
only blue and green color. Checked display settings and all is normal
there. I recieved no messages about a problem. I tried to troubleshoot,
but my problem is not among the list that they ask for. Has this
happened to anyone and if so, how did you rectify it? I show in display
settings, high32 bit and 1024 x 768. My only other choice is high
16bit. Thanks
90% of the time you have an intermittent or bad cable.
The red channel is not getting from the video card to
the screen. Frequently you can unplug and reconnect
the cable, or just wiggle the connectors to see if the
red channel will re-appear.
Note that this is not the proper newsroup for computer
screen hardware questions. This newsgroup is about
television editing. Don't they have newsgroup descriptions
on Google?
