In my NVE (version 3.1.0.25; I hope it works like yours...):

Near the bottom of the window click on 'More'. Click on Configure, then on the tab 'Folders'. To the right of any of the three folder assignments, click the little button with three dots '...' & choose your location.

The first one is 'Temporary files'; that's the one that you are concerned with here.
