I burn a lot of video on DVD for distribution. I used to use DVD+R (my old
burner only burned +R), but now use only DVD-R (my current burner burns all
formats, plus dual layer). From what I've heard, in the years past DVD-R
was compatible with about 90 percent of all non-computer DVD players, while
DVD+R was compatible with only about 86 percent. Having said that, I think
all the newer machines work fine with both +R and -R formats, and as the
older machines die out, the compatibility for both formats is probably
getting closer to 100 percent. I make both PAL and NTSC videos, and I
haven't noticed much difference between European and North American
compatibility ratios. I very seldom get feedback that one of my disks won't
play.

What's the scoop these days re: compatibility? I've been doing -R since
that's what my original burners required. Occasionally, I have some
compatibility problems with client machines.
