I copied a tape a friend of my grandson's provided for my grandson. The
tape copied well enough with Dazzle 9 and its software. However a copy
of the vidoe as an AVI file is left on my HD and no methods I have tried
will delete it (over 2 GB so not exactly trivial.) I've tried deleting
it in safe mode, while in "DOS" mode (not really DOS since the OS is XP
Pro) have used the "unlock" program to see if the file is locked but all
to no avail. I've even used old programs such as NSWP (had a lot of
success with that on older Windows boxes where delete didn't work.)
Nothing seems to work. I get a standard error message that the program
is in use or locked. The hardware is a Dell 3.2 GHz with 512 MB memory
and networked with an Me and a Linux box. Nothing unusual with the other
boxes. The router works as expected and even the Dell XP Pro box works
as expected. Only found it to lock up twice in almost a year and a half
of use. I sure would like to get rid of the 2 GB albatross. Not that it
is any emergency at this time as the HD is 160 GB and is not used for BU
at all (recently added external HD also 160 GB is the BU device.)

If you rename them to something without an extension they will usually
delete ok without any argument from windows.
That didn't work. The file can't be renamed.

Hello? McFly? Guess I'll have to repost.
This will do it.

Nope, didn't work at all. It didn't just not delete it on reboot but informed me that it could not be deleted even before the reboot.
If the darn file weren't so large (21 GB) it would just ignore it. Actually one of the programs I used intending to delete it actually made two copies of it (they could be deleted - I don't know how it could be copied if not accessed.) That had the effect of suddenly showing me that I only had 1/3 of my HD free after before having 2/3 of it free. I was actually trying to use my backup software to make an image copy of my backed up HD when I decided that something else would be much better.
But moveonb.exe doesn't do the job. I may have to find out where the permissions for files are stored and use a disk editor to get at that and change it.
