Hmmm....... One would think the legal department of large corporations would
make sure they stay on the right side of the laws and stay protected from
lawsuits. Network television can broadcast (and re-broadcast) sporting
events with close-up shots of cheerleaders, fans with signs, etc and not go
around and get individual releases. News organizations and magazines show
images of people without releases all the time. I thought the difference was
whether the person was in a public place, or in a place with an "expectation
of privacy"?

It seems silly to think a parent could be sued for taping his kid's game or
concert while NBC has no concerns about showing cheeseheads in Green Bay
dancing in the stands with their shirts off. As deep as those pockets are,
if fans could sue for being shown on television without a release then those
suits would be happening all the time.

And if Disneyland didn't want you taking pictures of The Mouse(TM), they
would forbid you to take the picture (or provide their own photographer for
a fee) rather than having Mickey pose with your kid and wave at the camera.
They will probably get upset if they find you trying to sell those pictures,
but they WANT you to give copies to friends and family because that is free
advertising.
