Mini-DV to DVD-r for editing - Good or bad?

Hi,
I just got a Pioneer DVD burner for Christmas. I'm wondering if there
are any advantages [or disadvantages] to burning a tape from my JVC
camcorderto a DVD-R, and then editing from that rather than from the
camera itself. I have a separate hard disk for digital data, and use
Adobe Premiere.
TIA,
Canada Mike
.
