Windows Movie Maker crashes every time I try doing more than one split in a
file. And this is on a brand new "media center PC" computer, default
configuration from the computer hardwar manufacturer (HP), running Windows
XP Media Center Edition.

In addition, I want something that captures my analog files accurately too.
When I tried capturing analog video from a Sony Hi8, using the Hauppage (sp)
card built into my media center PC, Windows Movie Maker captured video but
not audio. When I configured the video/audio in exactly the same way
(S-Vid2, Audio Line in 1/2), PowerProducer 5 captured it just fine. As an
aside, when I attempted to capture analog using Ulead's software, the UI was
fantastic for configuring the capture, the preview pane previewed my video
just fine, but the video capture itself didn't work at all. Nix the Ulead!
Sony Vegas (Lite) didn't even have an option for capturing analog, at least
not in the trial version.

And lastly, WMM has stripped down functionality. I want to do fun things
like video overlays for chroma-key effects, etc.

I may be narrowing myself down to PowerProducer. It crashes periodically,
but what can I expect from a $80 software package. In Power Producer, I
captured video from analog with no problem at all. I created edited video
in a half hour. The fun bells and whistles are both fun and easy to use.
Given that I'm looking for cute, not wonky (e.g. Vegas, Premiere), it might
be just the ticket.
