Re: Homemade DVD plays fine but problems copying

I have run across problems during copy operations with several software
packages when using their "automated" copy modules. I have also had many
success's using those same programs. Whenever I run across these problems I
use an alternate process to achieve a successful burn. Nero is the easiest
one for this problem I have found so far.
I place the offending DVD in the drive and then open it as I would any other
data drive. There I see the folders on the disc. Normally when a disc is
created by most DVD programs there is one, if no two folders there -
Audio_TS and Video_TS. When a disc is recorded on some DVD recorders there
are sometimes three folders - those mentioned above and an additional one
Video_RM.
I copy the Video_TS folder to a folder on one of my drives. Normally I keep
one called 'Duplications' for this purpose. If the offending disc is from a
recorder I also copy the Video_RM folder to the 'Duplications' folder. Then
I proceed as follows.
Rather than using Nero Express or Nero Smart Start I go directly to Nero
Burning Rom on the Programs menu. I then choose DVD options and then DVD
Video as my preset before clicking the 'New' button. Once inside Nero there
are two folders Audio_TS and Video_TS, usually in the center panel. On the
far left these are also listed. In that panel I click the Video_TS folder to
make sure it is selected, and then in the Navigator window I highlight the
Video_TS folder in the 'Duplications' folder. Highlight all the files inside
this folder and drag them to the center panel - which is the Video_TS folder
of my project. Click burn and normally I get a good burn with absolutely no
errors.
When copying a disc recorded on a standalone DVD recorder follow these same
steps, then highlight the root of the project in the far left panel so both
the Audio and Video_TS folders appear in the center panel, then drag the
Video_RM folder into that panel. Your project should now show all three of
these - the two _TS and the _RM. Click burn and all should be well.
If you receive a cyclic redundancey error during the original copying from
disc to hard drive, then there is one of the reason's the copy process
failed to begin with. This is not a usual reason for the error in copying,
but does happen. Normally problem discs are successfully copied with the
process outline above.
