I think you might not recognize the 1394 - Firewire port on your Sony.
Assuming you've got the model correct, it's a Digital 8, not a Hi-8. Many of
the Sony Digital8's are backward compatible with analog 8/Hi8 tapes, as well
as recording/playing Digital with Video8/Hi8 tapes .
However, be aware that the Firewire port on the camcorder is a 4-pin, which
is skinnier than the 6-pin, which is likely what's going to be on a Firewire
card on the computer. 4 pin into 6-pin cables are readily available. I got
one for $10 at Cheap Guys computers. I've seen them for $30 at Office Depot.
