I share this opinion. I have well over a 1000 burned DVDs and many are
unplayable after a few years since I burned them. My tape collection (VHS,
Hi-8, and MiniDV) are all playable including some dating back into the
1980s. My open reel black and white 1/2" video tapes from the late 1960's
and early 1970's still will play (if I can find another Sony deck to play
them on).
